Family and friends

Photo Randy Vanderveen, Grande Prairie, Alberta Bohemian Waxwings gather on the branches of a spruce tree as they take a break from gorging themselves on the berries of a mountain ash tree in a Crystal Ridge yard.Another year and likely another collection of broken New Year's resolutions.

Why do we even bother?

While the resolutions don't matter relationships do. Instead of making a resolution why not just make an effort to connect more with family and friends.

That doesn't mean you have to always be in a large group like waxwings when they hunt for food in the winter, but once in awhile breaking bread or spending time over a cup of coffee can go a long ways when it comes to getting to know people.

I am going to try and make the time I spend with people this year count a little more. That means not thinking that spending time watching TV or a movie is spending time with them.

Personal time. A time to get to know those who really count in your life a little better.
